SEARIT HULUF

Searit (SA-AH-DEE) Huluf (HU-LOOF) is an Ethiopian-American Director/Writer born in Fresno, CA and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She studied at UCLA’s Theater, Film and Television school, concentrating on screenwriting and animation. After graduating, Searit moved to the Bay Area and began working at Pixar Animation Studios as a filmmaker.

Her narrative film debut, “GAMERS”, played in over 40 film festivals, including Frameline43, CAAM, Outfest Fusion, and Pan African Film Festival. She has also directed numerous short documentary films for Pixar, such as “Exploring Blackness” and “19th Amendment”, receiving over 100k views on YouTube. Her live-action short film, “buna”, played at Cinequest, Black Harvest Film Festival, SF Indie Shortfest, and Urban Film Festival. She is currently part of the Women in Animation Mentorship program, mentored by Mark Osborne.

She most recently directed Pixar’s hybrid stopmotion/CG Sparkshort “Self”, released on Disney+ on February 2, 2024, mentored by Trevor Jimenez and Domee Shi.

During her spare time, Searit watches endless hours of anime, is a major foodie and coffee fan, and enjoys solo traveling.
